Welcome to The Triple Crown
The Triple Crown is a 3 sport dynasty salary cap league played on fantrax.
1. Structure
A. 10 teams divided into 2 divisions (National and American)
B. Rosters unique to each sport
C. H2H points will be the scoring for every league
D. The league will be formed of a commissioner committee. Austin, Boston, Durham, and Indianapolis will be the serving members. Their positions are as follows.
General Commissioner: Indianapolis
Football Commissioner: Durham
Basketball Commissioner: Boston
Baseball Commissioner: Austin
E. If extra help is needed out side of these commissioners then co-commissioners will be assigned.
2. Code of Conduct
A. Participation and activity are key to the life of the league. Owners must be committed to remaining active through the whole year. All that is asked of owners is to set your lineups every day in every sport, respond to trade offers, make your draft picks in the allotted time slot (24 hours), and check the Proboards page once a day.
3. Rule Changes
A. All rule changes must be made in the off season or their respective sport
B. Any league owner may propose a new rule
C. For a rule to become final, a vote on the rule must be result in a majority of votes. In the event of a tied vote then the proposal will be vetoed.
4. Contracts
A. This is a dynasty league, meaning each owner will be able to retain the majority of their players from year to year
B. A contract is the value that it takes to own a player for that year
C. A contract's minimum value possible is 0, and there is no maximum. Values must be while numbers, not fractions. (1, 2, 3, etc.)
D. Each sport will have their own Salary Cap/Contract Cap. For example, baseball will be 71 for the Inaugural season. Meaning, you have 71 contract points to award to each season to players on your active roster. It is a hard cap that will be slightly raised each year. View each sports specific rules for more details.
E. All player contracts will increase by 1 each year regardless of the player, unless the player has not surpassed their rookie limits. For example, if Mike Trout has a contract worth 5 in 2018, it will be 6 in 2019 and 7 in 2020, unless the player is released and awarded a new contract in Free Agency.
F. If a player is traded, his contract is traded with him.
G. You may trade contracts between teams from year to year. Fro example, Team A trades Team B 2 contracts for one year in exchange for Eric Hosmer
H. Rookies contain a contract of 0 and remain at 0 every year until they exceed the defined rookie limits for each sport, or have been promoted from your Minor League roster. If a rookie is promoted to your active roster, he stays at 0 contracts for that season but would cost 1 contract to re-sign the next season, whether rookie limits have been surpassed or not. For their rookie year, they will hold a value of 0 contracts, whether they are promoted or not. If you want to re-sign the player the next year, they will cost 1 contract, unless they have not reached rookie limits. In that case, they would still be 0 contracts and eligible for your Minor League roster. Example of a rookie tat would be 0 contract eligible in back to back years would be Ben Simmons, if he was never promoted. HE never played in a game in 2016 so he would still hold rookie status for 2017
I. Contracts may not be transferred between sports
J. There will be a 1 week period at the beginning of each sport's season to determine which of your players will be re-signed for an increase of 1 contract, or they can be released to Free Agency for no charge to the next year's salary cap
K. A contract offered that would put the team over the cap or over maximum roster will be considered invalid, unless you put in the post that you will make a corresponding move to correct the problem immediately following. The 24 hour clock on a Free Agent that has an invalid bid will automatically go back to the previous high bidder's Proboards timestamp. If there was not a previous high bidder, the player automatically goes back to Free Agency.
L. Repeat offenders of breaking salary cap will receive punishment from league office
5. Waivers
A. To release a player from any sport you must place him on waivers. Once on waivers, the player will be removed from your active roster and no longer your property. Waivers will last 5 days.
B. When a player is released, the team that releases him will immediately retain half of that player's contract back.
C. You would get nothing back for releasing a 1 contract player. If a team claims that player, they claim him for 1 and the team that releases him gets 1 contract back.
D. All hald contracts will be rounded up to the nearest whole contract. Example: a player that costs 3 contracts is released and goes unclaimed. The team that waived him owes 50% of his contract, which is 1 and a half. We will round the half contract up to the nearest whole number, in this case being 2. So releasing the player gained you 1 contract back and you still owe the player 2 contracts for the rest of that season.
E. Any player that is released for 4 contracts or more can be claimed for 2 less contracts than what they were released for. any player released for 3 contract or 2 contracts can be claimed for 1 less contract than what they were released for. The team that waived the player pays the difference.
F. If a player was waived via a Free Release, the person that waived him would owe nothing on a claimed player and would get all the contracts back
Example 1 (Even numbered 4+ contract release)
Philly release Severino at 8 contracts. Boston wins a claim on Severino for 6 contracts. Philly already gets 4 contracts back upon release. After the waiver claim process ( days) Severino then gets put on Boston's roster for 6 contracts. Philly then receives an additional 2 contracts, and still owes Severino 2 contracts for the rest of that season.
Example 2 (Odd numbered 4+ contract release)
Philly releases ARcher at 5 contracts. Boston wins claim for 3 contracts. Philly already gets 2 contracts back upon release. After the waiver claim process (5 days) Archer gets put on Boston's roster for 3 contracts. Philly then receives an additional contract, and still owes Archer 2 contracts for the rest of that season.
Example 3 (3 contract release)
Philly release Iglesias at 3 contracts. Boston wins claim for 2 contracts. Philly already gets 1 contract back upon release. After the waiver claim process (5 days) Iglesias then gets put on Boston's roster for 2 contracts. Philly then receives an additional contracts and still owes Isglesias 1 contract for the rest of that season.
Example 4 (2 contract release)
Philly release Gausman at 2 contracts. Boston wins a claim on Gausman for 1 contract. Philly already gets 1 contract back upon release. After the waiver claim process (5 days) Gausman gets put on Boston's roster for 1 contract. Philly does not retain any other contracts besides the 1 contract he got back upon release of Gausman.
G. If the player goes unclaimed after the 5 days, then the player becomes a free agent and the the team that released him will still owe the player 50% of his contract for that year only. If the released player only cost 1 contract and goes unclaimed, the player will be owed 1 contract still by the team that waived him. The player can now be signed by anyone and at any price
H. The waiver claim order will start out as being inverse order of the previous year's final standings. You will move to last after making a claim.
I. The team that waives a player cannot claim that player on waivers. They must wait for the player to clear waivers, and make a new bid on him.
J. Each waiver post must include the name of the player and their respective contract amount before the transaction can be processed
6. Free Releases
A. For each sport, each season, every team is allowed 2 release of players for no charge to their salary cap. They are called Free Releases. The entire contract will be removed from your salary cap and you will owe them nothing whether they are claimed or not. You must indicate you are using a Free Release on your waiver post for it to be a Free Release.
B. Releasing a rookie with a contract value of 0 in season costs your Major League club 1 contract against your salary cap. Releasing a rookie during the off season (at Re-Signs/Releases) costs nothing.
C. For NBA and NFL each season, you are allowed 1 Free Release of a Minor League player. Every other Minor League player that is released during the season will cost 1 contract against your salary cap for that season, unless you accumulate another one via trade.
D. For MLB each season, you are allowed 2 Free Releases of a Minor League player. Every other Minor League player that is released during the season will cost you 1 contract against your salary cap for that season, unless you accumulate another one via trade. The reason for the difference between MLB and the other sports is that MLB Minor League rosters are 20 players. NBA and NFL are 5.
7. Free Agency
A. Every year, there will be a date that off season free agency begins
B. Players eligible for free agency are any player in the professional or minor leagues of that sport that are not n a roster in the Triple Crown or eligible for the amateur draft.
C. The player pool for free agency will also include all the players that teams never extend contracts to from the previous year
D. To bid on a Free Agent, make a post of the player's name with a minimum bid of 1 in the Free Agency thread. If they are a rookie, they would be eligible for a 0 contract bid. Once 24 hours passes with no more bids, the highest bidder receives the player.
E. Teams may nominate a maximum of 2 players to free agency per calendar day for each sport.
F. Teams may offer Minor League contracts to current Minor Leaguers that aren't on a roster in this league. A Minor League contract is worth 0 and stays at 0 until the player surpasses his rookie eligibility or is promoted. If promoted, the player's contract stays at 0 for the rest of that season and that player will cost 1 the next year but will be ineligible for Minor League rosters the following season whether rookie limits are passed or not.
G. After the Championship is complete, Free Agency freezes until the next season.
H. Teams may add Free Agents after the freeze, provided the bid was posted before the freeze
I. Teams may also bid on Free Agents after the freeze, provided original bid was posted before the freeze and provided it is still a live bid
8. Signing Bonuses
A. The moment any amateur draft is completed in The Triple Crown, all undrafted players (and International players in MLB) go back into the Free Agency pool. When the season starts for that sport, (our MLB draft takes place in season) rookies that were not drafted by any team in our league may be offered a contract (Minor League or Major League). If a team offers a Minor League contract (0), this offer can be beaten by offering the players signing bonus with his Minor League contract. So if someone nominates the next Cuban star baseball player that was not drafted in our Rookie Draft a Minor League contract, that can be beaten by a Minor League contract +1 signing bonus. The signing bonus value will be a one year salary cap hit to the team. Then the player remains on his rookie contract. Any Major League contract will beat a Minor League contract, regardless of the signing bonus. Rookies are the only players eligible for a signing bonus.
B. Any player considered a rookie will immediately lose rookie eligibility in our league if given an actual contract amount instead of a signing bonus amount
9. Re-Signs/Releases
A. The Friday before Free Agency opens back up in each sport, Re-Signs/Releases will be due
B. Re-Signs/Releases is a post that you will make under the Free Agency thread of that sport stating who you will be re-signing and who you will be releasing
C. For every player re-signed, their salary goes up by 1 each season. Any player can be released with you receiving 100% of their salary back.
D. Releasing a rookie costs you 1 contract in season, unless you use a Rookie Release. On your Re-Signs/Releases post, rookies can be released for free
E. A Re-Sign/Release post may be altered due to trades up until the deadline. The post must be finalized by 11:59 PM EST.
F. You will have until 11:59 PM Eastern Time to post your Re-Signs/Releases on the date it is due
G. Saturday and Sunday will be for updating the spreadsheet and preparing for Free Agency. Then on Monday at 12:00 AM Free Agency will officially begin
H. If the post is submitted after 11:59 PM Eastern Time then a 3 contract penalty will be applied to the corresponding sport.
10. Minor Leagues
A. Rookie Limits: MLB - 130 At Bats or 50 Innings Pitched at Major League level; NFL - 200 Passing Attempts for QBs and 50 Rushing Attempts or Targets for RBs, WRs, TEs in regular season and playoffs; NBA - 800 Fantasy Points in the NBA
B. Only players that haven't exceeded rookie limits are eligible for the Triple Crown Minor Leagues
C. Players still considered Rookies may be promoted and demoted freely to and from your Minor League rosters but veterans may not be demoted
D. A player demoted must stay in the Minor Leagues for at least 10 calendar days
E. There is not certain amount of time a player must stay on your active roster if they are promoted
F. A rookie (contract value 0) that is promoted to the active roster continues to have the contract value of 0 until the season is over. To re-sign the player the next season he must receive a contract of 1. Once you promoted the player, whether rookie limits have been reached or not, they are no longer a rookie and cannot ever receive the rookie contract value of 0 again after that current season. Players that have not been promoted from Minor League rosters, and have not surpassed their rookie limits, are eligible for a 0 contract the following season and can stay on your Minor League roster until rookie limits are surpassed
G. One MLB rookie that has surpassed the rookie limits is allowed to be tagged for the following year. This allows the rookie to remain on the minor league roster for an extra year and will still not cost the team any contracts. A team may not trade for Rookie Tags and must be posted in the Re-signs/Releases. A player that was tagged may be traded like normal. The Rookie Tag is only for MLB.
11. Drafted Players List
A. Starting with the 2019 MLB season, we will be adding 5 spots to the Minor League roster for MLB ONLY. They will only be for drafted players of the most recent year. You are allowed to trade these players but they must go onto another team's Drafted Players List. These players can be brought up to your Minor League roster. You would just make a post in the Promotions thread. They will still be 0 contracts. They would only cost 1 the following season if they were promoted to your Major League roster or if they surpassed rookie limits. If they are brought up to the Minor League roster at any time they can never be put back onto anyone's Drafted Players List. So if one of these players is traded to a team with no room on the Drafted Players List they can be brought up to the team's Minor League roster. From the time any of these players are drafted up to the next July 1st, they can be released for free at any time
B. Within 1 week of the completion of the MLB Amateur Draft each owner must contact a commissioner to declare which drafted players are going where. If you drafted 5 or less players then there is no issue. If you have more than 5, you have to decide where to assign each. Drafted players can be put on Drafted Players List, promoted to Minor League roster and still hold rookie eligibility, promoted to MLB roster and lose rookie eligibility the following season, traded, or released back to Free Agency for free.
C. After the 2019 MLB Amateur Draft, every July 1st we will have to a make a decision whether or not we are bringing up the players we have on our Drafted Players List up to our Minor League roster, or are releasing for free. A decision, one way or another, must be made by the next July 1st. The purpose of this rule is to make our MLB draft picks more valuable and try to limit the need to pass on a draft pick due to no Minor League room
12. Amateur Drafts
A. Each sport will have an amateur draft each year
B. The amateur drafts will always take place two weeks following the actual draft of their respective sports. Expect for baseball, which will take place roughly 1 week after the draft pick signing deadline
C. Players eligible to be drafted in The Triple Crown will be any player that has been drafted in their sport's actual draft in that year. There are 2 exceptions to this rule: 1) You may draft real life Undrafted Free Agents in our NBA Draft provided they did in fact make their self draft eligible in the current draft and just were not selected. 2) In MLB, International players signed on or after July 2nd of that year up to the beginning of our draft are also eligible to be drafted in Rookie Drafts
D. Draft picks may be traded
E. All draft orders will be determined by final league standings from the previous season besides for the 1st round of every draft. Starting with the 2021 NFL draft and beyond a lottery will be utilized for all teams that finish 5th to 10th. The 1st round is the only round that is affected, every round after follows the reverse standings. The odds are as follows:
10th place = 40%
9th = 25%
8th = 15%
7th = 10%
6th = 5%
5th = 5%
13. Trades
A. To post a trade, find the thread marked Accepted Trades. Create a new thread with the title being the name of the teams involved followed by the word trade. Then make a post of what is being traded and to who. then all owners involved in the trade must post that they accept the trade
B. Any Major League player, Minor League player, Amateur Draft Pick, Free Release, or contract is eligible to be traded
C. Trades between sports in any way is prohibited
D. Trade review period is 24 hours. Every owner may and should vote on every accepted trade
E. A trade is officially processed when all owners involved in the trade post on the thread that the terms of the trade have been accepted. It takes 5 owners voting approve to approve the trade. It takes 4 owners voting decline to decline the trade. If 24 hours pass where the approve/veto requirements are not met then the trade will be processed
F. There will be a Trade Deadline in each sport. From that deadline until through the completion of the Championship, trading is not allowed. After the Championship, trading immediately opens back up.
G. You may go over the salary cap in the offseason after a trade but you must be under it at the deadline for the Re-Signs/Releases to be posted
H. You may go over the roster limit in the offseason, you just cannot be over after Re-Signs/Releases. You may go over the roster limit allowed in a trade during the season as long as it is posted that you will immediately make a corresponding roster move to correct the issue upon approval
14. DL/IR
A. The Disabled List and Injured Reserve will be used for all sports
B. To be eligible for the DL, a player must 1) be an MLB player who was put on the DL, 2) be an NFL player who is listed as Out and is IR eligible on ESPN, or 3) be an NBA player who is listed as Out and is IR eligible on ESPN
C. To be eligible for the IR in the Triple Crown, a player must be out for the season. An official announcement needs to be made by the team he plays for. On ESPN there are IR slots for NBA and NFL. Treat these slots the same as DL slots in MLB
D. The minimum time a player must spend on the DL, if moved to the DL, is 10 days in the Triple Crown, regardless of their health status in real life. Even if the payer is only out for 1 game in NFL, 5 days in NBA, or 7 days in MLB. If the player is dropped and then picked up or traded during his DL stint the mandatory 10 days still applies to whoever adds him. It starts from the original day they were placed on the DL
E. If the player remains on the DL or Out in real life then you may continue to keep the player on the DL past the minimum 10 days
F. Once the player is taken off the DL by their actual teams or no longer Out according to ESPN your next move must be activating that player, dropping that player, or trading them. You can keep the player there until your next trade, add, drop, promotion, demotion, etc. However, if the player is no longer on the DL or Out according to ESPN but has but has been moved to the DL in the Triple Crown you cannot make any roster moved until that player's 10 day minimum has passed
G. If a player is ruled out for the season and is moved to IR in the Triple Crown then the team who owns that player will receive half of the player's contract back unless the player holds a 1 contract value, in which case the player will still be owed the 1 contract. If the player moved to IR makes more than 1 contract, their remaining contract will be rounded up if it results in a half contract.
H. If a player is confirmed to be out for a period longer than our league year then the player is considered out for the season
I. You must indicate your intention of moving a player to the IT by creating a thread in Place on IR/DL and posting that the player has been ruled out for the year
J. You may add a player on DL or IR to your roster even if you don't have the roster space as long as it is in the post that you will immediately move the plate to the DL or IR upon winning a bid on the player. Same thing goes for a trade.
K. From the time Free Agency starts to the 1st game of the season, you may place a player on the DL only if they have some kind of updated documentation from the team the player plays for that the player will be Out or placed on the DL once the actual season begins. In this instance, the roster move would need to be cleared with the commissioners
L. For MLB you are allowed 1 DL slot for you Minor League roster. The same principles of the rule 14 A-K apply to this rule as well
M. No player is allowed to come of the season long IR once they have been declared as out for the season, regardless of real life circumstances.
15. Playoffs
A. Winner of each division and 2 Wild Card teams from either league advance to the playoffs (4 team playoffs)
B. Teams will then be seeded by best record. Tiebreakers are as follows: 1) H2H record 2) Total points for the year 3) In the event that more than 2 teams have the same record, seeding goes by total points for the year
C. 1 week matchups for the semifinals and finals in all sports
16. Team Pages
A. Each team should maintain their own team page on their respective board. Threads should include: NFL Roster (+minor leagues), NBA Roster (+minor leagues), MLB roster (+minor leagues), Draft Pics (for all three sports), and a transactions page. It is not mandatory but it will help you keep track of everything. If there is a mistake on the spreadsheet then this will help serve as proof.
B. The official rosters will be posted on a league spreadsheet. There is a link to the spreadsheet in League Office area
17. Roster and Players Involved in Roster Moves on Game Day
A. ESPN roster add/drops lock at the first game of the day, this is not the same as adds/drops in the Triple Crown. You cannot add or drop a player on ESPN once the first game of the day has been played.
B. ESPN roster start/sits lock individually at time of player's game
C. Any player traded, waived, or demoted after the add/drop roster lock time but before the start/sit roster lock must be placed on the bench for that day and then removed from the team for the next day
Example: First MLB game of the day is at noon on Sunday. You own Eric Hosmer and he plays at 8 PM.
1) If you want to trade him and have it reflected on that days ESPN roster, the trade and approvals must be complete before noon.
2) If you want to waive Eric Hosmer at 11:30 AM you waive him on the board and drop him on ESPN
3) If you want to waive Eric Hosmer at 1:30 PM you waive him on the board and bench him on ESPN. Then you drop him before the next day. He just can't play a game fro you after he as waived
4) If you want to waive Eric Hosmer at 9PM, you keep him on your active roster on ESPN for Sunday. Then drop him on ESPN before Monday's games
18. Side Contests
A. Every year there will be a side contest for each sport. The contests are as follows:
- MLB: MLB.com Beat The Streak
- NFL: ESPN Survivor Pool
- NBA: ESPN March Madness Bracket
B. The winner for each contest will receive an award for that specific sport. The winner may choose from the following three options:
- 1 additional contract
- 1 additional free release
- 1 additional supplemental draft pick (4.11)
C. These awards may not be traded at any time. A carrot (^) will indicate on the spreadsheet which items are not trade able.
19. Stat Limits
A. Individual sports may have specific limits that may not be met. The following are stat limits for each sport:
MLB:
- Maximum Pitching Starts Per Week: 9
Note: the start limit is a hard limit. This limit may not be exceeded even if Fantrax allows it.
B. If a stat limit is broken then the points accumulated due to the illegal stat will be forfeited. If this is a repetitive action then the commissioner committee will discuss more severe penalties.
C. It is the responsibility of all league members to follow their opponents stats through the week. Commissioners will be monitoring but is not always possible to monitor all matchups accordingly. If you see an illegal stat then bring it to the commissioner's attention ASAP before bringing it to the league to ensure it is an illegal stat.
The Triple Crown is a 3 sport dynasty salary cap league played on fantrax.
1. Structure

9th = 25%
8th = 15%
7th = 10%
6th = 5%
5th = 5%
13. Trades
